Hi! I'm Alina Nikolaou. I’m the Managing Director & Curator of TED Conference’s AI initiative, TEDAI.

A communication scientist by training, I have a strong interest in media ecology (McLuhan; Postman): the idea that whenever a new medium is inserted into society, it does not just add to the existing culture but changes it completely, much like the introduction of a new plant or insect species can transform an entire ecosystem.

In 2023, I received my Doctorate in Communication Science at the University of Vienna for my dissertation “VR for Good: Examining Virtual Reality as a medium for social attitude and behavior change”. I'm also a graduate in Political Science at the University of Vienna.

I spend most of my time in my three favorite places in the world, Vienna, Athens and Gytheio. I like being in nature (who doesn't?) and writing, too (poetry, stories, anything really).
